Spotlight on Government consultations

Article posted May 26, 2023, Tagged in Advance

This article provides you with an update regarding proposed reforms to employment law, and some insights into what we are seeing in our sectors at the moment.

Bank holidays

As we approach the last bank holiday in May and welcome in the summer, we have noticed the bank holidays impacted starts of new assignments and timesheet delays due to tighter deadlines. However, we have seen a positive increase over the last couple of weeks with new projects and assignments starting end of May beginning of June.

ADVANCE's Trust Pilot score has also increased to 4.7 from 4.6 in the last 6 weeks. We ensure take on board feedback and review our processes internally.  We reply to every review personally and try to speak to the contractors when their name is provided.

Proposed reforms to Employment Law

Following the Government announcement, the beginning of May regarding proposed reforms to employment law, the Department of Business and Trade have published an accompanying consultation.  Please click here for further information. The consultation closes on 7 July 2023. The FCSA will be responding to the consultation, and I will be able to share information once we receive updates.

The consultation focuses on 3 key areas.

      • Working Time Regulations (recording employment hours)
      • Holiday Pay
      • The transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations

There are also discussions happening regarding the issues Umbrella employees can encounter with auto-enrolment and how pension portability could be of a greater benefit. When we hear more information on this, we will issue updates.

There was a seven-month high in April 2023 with hiring of IT contractors with investments in security, IT, and development.

The aim of this update is to provide you with up to date, useful information regarding our sector. If you would like to discuss any of these topics in more detail please feel free to contact contact ADVANCE or your Client Relationship Manager on 01244 564 564.
